As a host and member of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, Johnny Russell was one of Country Music’s most popular entertainers before his death in 2001. He was a funny and very talented entertainer. As a recording artist and songwriter he was also one of its most influential practitioners. After all, he even wrote the title cut for this record, and it was recorded by none other than The Beatles. That alone is a pretty good claim to fame.
This was Johnny Russell’s final recording before his death, and it is a tribute one of country music’s great performers (and writers).
On this “all-acoustic” bluegrass pickin’ party, Johnny is joined by an all-star group of country music friends, ncluding Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, Crystal Gayle, Earl Scruggs, Marty Stuart, Bobby Osborne, The Whites, and Bobby Bare. This is a GREAT album!
Penned over three decades, these Johnny Russell favorites have been recorded by artists like The Beatles, Dolly Parton, Buck Owens, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Gene Watson, Linda Ronstadt and many more. Selections include Makin’ Plans, Got No Reason Now For Goin’ Home, Act Naturally, and I’m Leavin’. We miss Johnny Russell!
